Scientists will tell you the most efficient shape is round - so all dome pellets offer stability, but you get what you pay for, cheaper domes will be less accurate than premium priced , as a lot more research has gone into the premium priced ones. Pointed pellets are best for metal objects, they will never be as stable as domed, and pinpoint accuracy may not be a requirement in their use. Hunting pellets may need to be expanders - the pellet is designed with a stronger front end and a weaker tail, on impact the back catches up with the rear doubling the spread size of the pellet, one of the most interesting pellets on the market is made by Logun which uses memory retentive metal causing a shock wave on impact - but it doesn't suit all rifles and needs practice before use for hunting.
